II. Here is my article "Deprivation in American Affluence: The Theory of Stimulus Addiction."
Why such a boredom epidemic in kids and adults of affluent families? I was Clinical Director in an addiction agency in lower Fairfield County, Connecticut and every addicted kid I interviewed, said they got into drugs out of boredom. One kid was bored on his father's large cabin crusier!! Published in the Journal of Alcohol and Drug Education.

This article discusses my research testing "Fellowship" the cornerstone of Alcoholism Anonymous and self-help organizations based on the 12 steps. This research was conducted in a residential facility for alcoholic men.

Dr. Machell was an active writer having authored over 80 professional and scholarly works in his specialty areas of addiction and psychopathology. His writings on emotional disorders in professors have been discussed in feature articles in national and international publications, such as Academe, the Academic Leader, The Chronicle of Higher Education, The Wall Street Journal, also, his work was discussed in John Goodlad's Teachers for Our Nation's Schools and numerous professional and student publications nationwide. He has been an invited speaker at the graduate school of Brown University, University of Pittsburgh, Marquette University, University of Georgia, Colby College, Connecticut College and other institutions nationwide. In May 1990 he received a letter of commendation from the Board of Trustees of the Connecticut State University system for his scholarly work. During his career, Dr. Machell has created six state licensed addiction treatment programs in Connecticut.
