Ray Tracey, renowned jeweler, Navajo Ray Tracey is nationally known and respected as one of the most outstanding Native American jewelers. Born and raised on the Navajo reservation in Arizona, Ray began making jewelry at the age of nine; he now has been working professionally as a jeweler since 1977. He studied with Ben Nighthorse (Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell) a renowned jeweler as well as a well known politician. He has received multiple awards throughout the years. Ray is an extremely versatile artist. He not only designs traditional Navajo Old Style jewelry, but remains on the cutting edge of contemporary design, including the incorporation of faceted gemstones. His inlay work is characterized by vibrant stones such as Lapis, Corals, and Turquoise into sterling silver and 14K. He also creates one of a kind collection pieces made with materials such as opals, diamond and 14K gold. Ray’s new “Native Samurai” line reflects a culmination of inspiration by the richness of his ancestral history and Japanese culture, merging cultures and his fashion-forward contemporary insightfulness.
Ben Nighthorse Campbell, renowned jeweler
As a US Senator, Ben Nighthorse Campbell was one of the three major speakers at the opening of the National Museum of the American Indian, September 21, 2004. He has been a prime mover of this endeavor. In 1989, then a Congressman, Campbell sponsored the bill to authorize the establishment of the Museum. Senator Campbell, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, served as Chairman of the Honorary Fund Raising Committee. As a Native American jeweler, you will see a display of Nighthorse jewelry at the Museum. He is a member of the Northern Cheyenne. After his second term in the Senate, he was not a candidate for reelection in 2004. He also taught Ray Tracey the business side of the jewelry business, as well as many more Native American jewelers.
